Planning your trip
What's the best way to plan our trip?
The weather up here is very unpredictable and that is a major factor for any planning. Therefore, all prior planning is usually bad planning. Once you are here, we'll take time to look at the most recent weather forecast and mix it up with your personal interests. Through this process we create a tailor made trip plan which maximizes your trip output with your face in the sun as much as possible. We are experts in Iceland, ergo don´t worry about planning your trip until you are here.
How many days do I need for the ultimate camper trip in Iceland?
If you would like to make the full trip around the entire country on Iceland's famous ring road, it can be done in seven days. However, if you would like to actually enjoy yourself, we highly recommend doing it in ten. For a south coast trip, we would say five days is ideal as the south coast has a lot to offer. If you only have three days, then we recommend the Golden Circle. Basically, every part of Iceland is beautiful, and there are lots of areas to explore. We have been exploring Iceland for over twenty years and there is always something more to see.
Where can I find restrooms and showers in Iceland?
Toilets are all around and accessible to traveling tourists. In gas stations, campsites, at local swimming pools, restaurants and even in stores. It´s strictly forbidden to do your stuff outdoors as this will bother follow travellers. For showers, we recommend the local swimming pools as there are geothermal warmed swimming pools in every little town in Iceland. To be more specific, there is a swimming pool for every 1300 inhabitants in Iceland. These pools are cheap, outdoors and really relaxing.
Where can I get some information regarding what special hazards I might expect while driving in Icel
We recommend that each customer gets familiar with the safetravel.is website. There is a lot of good information there regarding driving in the highlands of Iceland and driving in Iceland in general. Another good web page that we recommend is visiticeland.com. We also strongly recommend that you check the weather and road conditions each day as both can change frequently and where you were planning to go might not be possible at the time. Please note that we do not recommend driving a Camper in wind speed of more than 15 meters per second.
Where can we park and camp the camper?
From the 1st of July 2016, a law prohibits camper vans from being parked outside the local campsites that is why we strongly recommend you to stay at camp grounds which offer restrooms etc. The campgrounds are all over Iceland and you won't have to make a reservation beforehand. There is always space and the atmosphere in the camp sites are relaxed.
